Minecraft Popularity Intact as Sale Crosses 200 million

Minecraft, the popular game developed by Mojang Studios, has sold over 200 million copies since its release. The game was released on 17 May 2009 and took exactly 11 years to achieve this milestone.

In the last few months during the pandemic lockdown, it has received an overwhelming response with the addition of millions of new users. A surge in interest from YouTubers and nostalgia-induced playing saw Minecraft remain, king of YouTube viewership stats, last year.  Now the company has over 126M monthly active users playing the game.

Microsoft acquired Minecraft maker Mojang nearly six years ago for $2.5 billion, and at the time, it had sold more than 50 million copies across PC, Xbox 360, PS3, and other platforms. It was a smart purchase by Microsoft, and the incredible sales growth and momentum ever since has kept players returning to the game for years.

Minecraft is available on almost every platform possible which includes Xbox One, Windows 10, Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS. You can play with anyone from anywhere.
